It’s Not the 90’s Anymore: There Are Bigger Issues To Consider

With election season around the corner, plenty of topics are being heavily debated and in public scrutiny every day.

During election season, however, the blinders are usually easily pulled over the eyes of the uninformed and believed by the very same. Two big issues that are usually running the table in debates and even in households are abortion and gay marriage. Really?

With a country coming out of a recession not too many years back, a horrendous health care plan, global terrorism, high inflation with wage stagnation, why are these the issues that we write about. It is not 1990 anymore. There is a great example of why these topics are heavily debated. Candidates running for an election will choose a popular response, stand behind it, and rally. The more steam they can build the more of a following they can build and hope for results in an upcoming election.

A great example of this is what happened in Cuba with Fidel Castro. Yes, in Cuba with Fidel Castro. As an example I am choosing one very specific topic to demonstrate. Because it appeased to voters, Fidel Castro was originally against gay people and throughout the 60’s and 70’s many gay people were either imprisoned or sent to “camps” to learn how to become heterosexual. However like Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama, he switched his stance and embraced the homosexual community to become more popular amongst the people, all the while pushing his socialist agenda. This is a prime example of someone just saying what they know will appeal to people and an easy way to gain support.

So why do we focus on these trivial issues. I understand that no issue such as gay marriage or abortion are by any means trivial, but aren’t there more important issues to consider?

Why are people so enthralled with gay marriage when we have so many other much more relevant issues such as the situation with ISIS in the middle east. The fact that inflation is occurring but wages are not rising in unison. The fact that social security is failing before our very eyes and a debt that will be crippling for generations to come.

We need to wake up people. We need to begin to focus on issues that can actually shape our economic future rather that focus on smaller that are important to the individual, but our Nation as a whole is not as heavily impacted as it would be with other topics.

If there was evidence of far more rigorous research personally being done by these people (as it fits the context of a ‘diet’), would you still feel they are wasting their time?Your gripe is about the way people borrow ideas and apply them to ill-fitting contexts, basically creating a nicely packaged and pseudo-scientific ‘fad’ lacking any decent amount of underlying substance…and thus is a distraction to be avoided.
